Phoenix Music Executive Development Program to be Offered Virtually to Participants The acclaimed Phoenix Music Executive Development program will be offered virtually to 12 selected participants , beginning early April 2021 . The program is presented by Alberta Music , and is funded by FACTOR and the Government of Canada .
This will be the fifth time the Phoenix Program has been offered to Canadians . The program was originally intended to take place in person in Alberta but was put on hold last year due to the pandemic . In light of ongoing COVID concerns , it has been adapted to take place online . The application process was competitive and based on the applicants ’ professional achievements . Participants were selected by a jury of industry professionals , and the chosen participants include business owners , artist managers , independent labels , and senior executives from across Canada .
The 12 participants in the Alberta edition are Anthony Lovesey , Eman Safadi , Jessica Marsh , José Bertrand , Kyle Cunjak , Laurie Joan Brown , Lorraine Marina Stanton , Nicholas Peter Middleton , Peter Chapman , Zachari Smith , Natasha Mandrusiak , Megan McKay

SOCAN Foundation Announces Winners of 2022 Black Canadian Music Awards The SOCAN Foundation has announced the five recipients of the 2022 SiriusXM Black Canadian Music Awards , created to recognize and celebrate the artistic merit demonstrated by Black music creators : Adria Kain , AHI , Desarae Dee , Nonso Amadi and Zach Zoya , each of whom will receive $ 10,000 ( double last year ’ s amount ) to support their development . Special distinctions and awards of $ 1,000 are also being made to
City Fidelia , Haley Smalls , Leila Day , Promise , and Shreez . “ What an honor to participate in amplifying Black creatives . So many of the submissions were incredible , making this the hardest jury process to date ,” said Keziah Myers , Executive Director at ADVANCE Music Canada , and chair of the jury . “ I learned of writers and composers that I didn ’ t know about , automatically looked up their projects , and it inspired me to think of ways to amplify them within the industry , and provide more vehicles for opportunity . Congratulations to the winners !” Myers was part of the SOCAN Foundation committee that created the Black Canadian Music Awards and has also served as a jury member for the last three years .
This year , the Awards had a record number of applications from artists across Canada , spanning a multitude of genres . Winners were selected by a jury and advisory council of prominent Black artists and industry leaders . Jury members include Keziah Myers ( Executive Director at Advance ), Nicolas Ouellet ( Radio Host at Radio-Canada ), Lord Quest ( Executive Creative , Black Music , at SOCAN ), Marika Siewert ( Recording Artist ) and Wayne Samuels ( President and CEO at Wired Management Inc ).

MNS Announces Nova Scotia Music Week 2023 For the first year since 2015 , Nova Scotia Music Week ( NSMW ) will return to Yarmouth / Kespukwitk from November 2-5 , 2023 . Now in its 26th year , NSMW and Music Nova Scotia bring together artists , fans , and music industry from across Nova Scotia and around the globe to experience the best talent the province has to offer .

Music BC Applications open for Olivia Quan Award for Audio Excellence This scholarship is to honour the lovely Olivia Quan . It is for the future generations of young people pursuing a career in audio to learn from and be inspired by Olivia ’ s achievements and dedication to her craft . One ( 1 ) participant will be awarded $ 5000 each year of the award .
Music BC is handling the administration , however , the family and close friends of Olivia will decide the recipient of the award .
